Polygons

This map was inspired by several conversations that led to some confusion since I moved to Germany. While sharing in English that I saw a moose in Northern Minnesota on my last trip back to the US, I was met with confused faces. After translating into German, we discovered that the word for moose is ‘Elch’, which translates back to English as ‘elk’. In German (and other Germanic languages), there’s no linguistic distinction between the two animals.

Little did I know it’s the same in the UK until I made this map 😅

This map highlights the territories of the moose across the world, and the linguistic differences in what they’re called in these countries.
